Although we are not able to have our traditional public Remembrance Day Assembly, Suncrest will be having in class virtual presentations on Tuesday, November 10 to commemorate this very important occasion.
This year we will be collecting donations for the Canadian Legion only through School Cash Online. Please do not send cash or coins to the school. You may also donate to the Legion directly.
Schools are not in session on Wednesday, November 11 as we take time to recognize the sacrifices made by our Veterans.
Suncrest will have two Halloween activities this year. The first is a scaled back pumpkin patch as described in the e-mail sent home last week and the second is the opportunity to wear school appropriate costumes on Friday, October 30th.
The schedule for students picking up their pumpkins to be taken home and carved/decorated can be found here. Please send a plastic bag to help your child transport their pumpkin home.
We need to limit this activity to staff and students only – we look forward to welcoming parents back onto the school grounds for this event next year!
Student costumes for Friday should not include masks, depict violence in anyway, or be overly revealing. We also ask that costumes do not depict or reinforce cultural or gender stereotypes . Thank you for your help in making Friday an inclusive and fun day for all of our students!
Mountain West Studios will be at Suncrest during the morning of Wednesday, October 21 to take individual student photos. Please see important information from Mountain West by clicking HERE.
In order to keep the integrity of our learning groups intact and see the benefits of a staggered school start and end time, we ask that all students and parents leave the school grounds as soon as possible after pick up. Students waiting for younger siblings may wait in the area behind the fence in the same area as the Wishing Tree.
Unfortunately this means that students and families will not have access to the playground or gravel field after school for the time being. School Covid exposures have happened at the secondary and elementary school levels in our District and we need to continue to do what we can to help reduce the risk of infection for Suncrest students, staff and families.
We also ask that adults continue to be masked and/or distanced while waiting at drop off and pick up times and remain diligent about wearing masks when speaking with staff or being near children other than their own.
As Dr. Bonnie Henry has said “This is not forever, but it is for now.” We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Orange Shirt Day is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools and those who continue to be impacted.
Wearing an orange shirt is meant to recognize the harm that was done to residential school students and to show a commitment to the principle that every child matters.
We will be having Orange Shirt Day here at Suncrest on Wednesday, September 30th. We are encouraging all students and staff to wear orange to support children everywhere.
Our Parents as Partners Conversations will be Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1 starting at 2:10 pm.
On both Wednesday and Thursday we will have an early dismissal. Students who start school at 8:45am will be dismissed at 1:45pm. Students who start school at 9:00am will be dismissed at 2:00pm.
This is a 10 minute virtual chat (not at the school) meant to provide initial contact between parents and teachers and an opportunity to briefly discuss topics such as goals and expectations for the year, student hobbies/interests, school/home responsibilities and any questions that you may have. Scheduling information will be sent home soon. Thank you!
On Friday, October 2nd, Suncrest Elementary will be supporting the Terry Fox Foundation and Cancer Research by participating in our annual Terry Fox Run. This year we will run within school grounds and adjacent park one Learning Group at a time.
If you would like to contribute to our fundraising efforts, you may do so through the following link: http://www.terryfox.ca/SuncrestElementary
Thank you for your support!
