June Updates

Posted by

June 2, 2025

It’s hard to believe we’re already in June, with just four weeks left until summer vacation! We have a number of exciting events and important reminders to share as we wrap up the school year:

Soccer Camp – June 2 & 3
Today and tomorrow, we’re thrilled to have Deylen Vellios from the Vancouver Whitecaps running soccer camps for our students. The kids are having a blast outside, and we couldn’t ask for better weather!
Deylen also offers private coaching clinics through Game On Soccer. If you’re interested, you can reach him at:
Email: gameonsoccerbc@gmail.com
Text: 778-953-5792  Coach Deylen Vellios – Game On Soccer

Parent Volunteer Tea – June 5
We will be recognizing and appreciating the many contributions of our wonderful parent volunteers.

Jump Rope for Heart – June 6
Students will be participating in this fun and active event to support heart health and raise funds.

Pride Flag Raising – June 9–13
We will be flying the Pride flag outside our school as a visual symbol of our commitment to celebrating diversity, inclusion, and belonging for all.

Final PAC Meeting – June 16 at 6:30 PM in the Library
Please join us for the last PAC meeting of the year. We’ll be discussing plans for next year and filling open positions. We’re especially looking for partnership roles such as Co-Chair and Co-Secretary to help share the load. Your involvement makes a big difference!

Talent Show – Hosted by Student Leadership June 17th
Our leadership students are organizing a talent show to showcase the amazing talents of their peers. Auditions will be held by leadership and staff to help put together a fun and well-balanced show. We welcome all students to try out and share their talents! While we may not be able to include every act, we truly appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm and effort. Please note: this is a student-only event.

Band Concert – June 18 at 9:40 AM
Join us in the gym for a morning of music as our band students perform their final concert of the year.

Year-End Assembly – June 23 at 10:40 AM
We’ll gather as a school community to celebrate the year’s achievements and say farewell to another great school year.

Grade 7 Leaving Ceremony – June 25 at 9:00 am
A reminder to Grade 7 families: our leaving ceremony will take place on June 25. We encourage a maximum of two guests per family due to limited seating. Siblings who are students at Suncrest will also attend.

Last Day of School – June 26
Report cards will be sent home, and students will be dismissed at 10:00 AM.

Moving This Summer?
If your family is moving and your child will not be attending Suncrest in September, please let the office know as soon as possible. This helps us with planning for the upcoming school year.

Yearbooks
More information about yearbooks will be shared soon—stay tuned!

Year End Field Trip Reminders

  • Students must check in with their teacher in the classroom before being dismissed.
  • If your child has ordered Fun Lunch and is on a field trip that day, they must remain at school until their teacher distributes the lunches.

End of the Week Update & Important Reminders

September 13, 2024

As we wrap up our second week of the 2024/2025 school year, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for your support and involvement. It was wonderful to see so many of you at yesterday’s Open House. It was a great opportunity for you to meet our staff and get a feel for our building.

To celebrate the end of our first week, we enjoyed a fun afternoon with a book, blanket, buddy, and popsicle to cool off during last week’s heatwave. We also had our first assembly of the year, where we welcomed new staff and students, discussed school expectations, playground safety, and introduced the concept of what it means to Suncrest SHINE.

Today, we’re looking forward to our Terry Fox Assembly and Run at 1:30 PM. The donations link remains open, and your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Planners have been distributed to students, and you’ll receive a letter regarding payment soon. A big thank you to the parents who came by to help with weeding our gardens! The improvements are fantastic, but we still have two areas by the walkway that need some attention. If you have some spare time, we’d greatly appreciate any help with this.

We also encourage our families to support a litterless lunch initiative. Please send your children with reusable containers to minimize waste. Any wrappers or baggies used will be returned home with them in their lunch bags.

This year, our newsletters will be seasonal: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. For the latest school events, please regularly check our school website. Please note that classroom-specific events, such as field trips, will not be posted on the website. Check in with your child’s teacher for important date information.

Student verification forms will be sent home in the coming weeks. If you have a Yahoo email address, we encourage you to switch to a Gmail account, as we’ve been experiencing issues with communication to Yahoo addresses.

The PAC will be emailing information soon regarding the Fun Lunch program. Additionally, you will find an after-school program flyer attached to this email for your reference.

Please note the following important dates:

  • PAC Meeting: Wednesday, September 18th at 6:30 PM in the library
  • Professional Day: Friday, September 20th (No school for students)
  • Orange Shirt Day & Assembly: September 27th at 9:40 AM
  • National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: September 30th (No school)
  • Photo Day: October 4th
